What can you do in such cases? Well, accompany your shipment from dispatch to arrival! Obviously not by packing yourself next to it and rocking on a cargo ship or enduring an air transport in the cargo hold of an airplane for 2 months! Shipment monitoring can be achieved with a tiny data logger. With such a small device that fits anywhere and reliably records impacts on your shipment for weeks! There have been tools in the past to monitor the fate of shipments, but either due to their size and weight, they couldn't fit next to the critical product, or due to their energy requirements, they couldn't record events in a long enough "autark" mode (without external power supply). Moreover, previous-generation event loggers (also known as electronic recorders or loggers) couldn't reliably record real mechanical impacts, as their data recording, even if done every second, could only "catch" by chance a few milliseconds of acceleration events from a drop or side impact. In the worst case, mechanically sensitive products were damaged despite the impact event not being visible in the recorded event log. These problems are now a thing of the past! The unique Swiss-made MSR175 miniature data logger has incredible capabilities: it logs even the shortest impacts (such as accidental drops or tilts) thanks to its 6400 measurements per second data recording and built-in triaxial vibration sensor! Therefore, any short impact in any direction is recorded. In addition, it also records air pressure, temperature, and light intensity - everything necessary for monitoring a fragile shipment and logging transport events. With its tiny size and only 28 grams weight, it can be "packed" anywhere, thus accompanying the shipment directly next to the fragile product. It's also good that its presence practically doesn't increase neither the weight nor the size of the shipment.
The MSR175 reliably records transport events for up to 8 weeks, with a timestamp, in an unalterable data format. It is "impact-resistant" up to over 200 g acceleration, so the information remains intact even if the rest of the shipment unfortunately has long been completely destroyed. Data retrieval via USB (with the software provided with the data logger) is easily done, and then the data can be analyzed with the MSR ShockViewer software. Every special event (impact, drop, sudden changes in air pressure or temperature) or even the light intensity "jump" indicating the opening of the shipment can be identified in the log with a timestamp, and on a detailed time scale, the acceleration values of selected vibration events can be viewed in millisecond resolution. It's also worth mentioning that in case of events exceeding a preset threshold before the shipment starts, not only the event itself but also its pre- and post-life are recorded. So, a multi-channel fast data logger lurks in a tiny battery-powered device, along with all necessary sensors. Its battery can be recharged via USB, making the same data logger usable for monitoring multiple shipments. All this at a more favorable price than a more serious transport protective packaging! Not to mention the value of the sensitive product to be protected.
The Swiss company MSR not only manufactures the MSR 175 data logger mentioned here as an example but also more than a dozen miniature data logger types that can be individually configured and equipped with sensors. Its Hungarian representation is provided by PIM Professional Industrial Measurement Technology Ltd., whose employees (with 25 years of industrial measurement background) are happy to assist in selecting the appropriate type and its configuration. Most of the devices can be shipped from our Budapest warehouse overnight! We look forward to your esteemed interest! May your shipments arrive intact to the recipients!
